5 Design Tips For Your Summer Garden

Can’t wait to bake in the sun, sip on a refreshing drink and enjoy a BBQ in the comfort of your own garden? Neither can we! Well, the hot weather may be a couple of months away yet but it’s mild enough to get outside and start preparing your garden for lots of activity during the summer.

Take a look at these design tips for your garden.

1. Update your lighting

When it comes to outdoor lighting, it’s not just about functionality anymore. Oh no. The extravagant fittings you are used to seeing in interiors are now creeping their way outdoors. Fairy lights, statement lanterns and even chandeliers are being used to glam up gardens. If you do decide to splash out on some luxury lighting for outdoors, do be careful that the expensive items are well protected from the elements.

2. Comfortable seating

Many homeowners today are choosing soft and luxurious seating for their outdoor living spaces. And why shouldn’t they? In the summer, you spend more time outside than you do indoors, so it makes sense to provide as much comfort as possible. Of the most fashionable outdoor furniture sets are wicker framed sofas complete with plump, inviting cushions. You’ll want to provide shelter or have a quick plan for removing cushions in case there is a sudden change in the weather.

3. Water features

Water features are beautiful to look at, and they produce a tranquil sound and atmosphere. Eye-catching contemporary or elegant and classic designs can be purchased from garden centres or home ware stores and are very easy to assemble. Some require more maintenance than others so do read the reviews to find the right one for you. Or, for a more natural feel, you may wish to consider commissioning a landscape designer to design and create a feature especially for your garden.

4. Family tables

A large dining table is a great addition to any garden that is expecting plenty of al fresco dining. You can achieve the trendy rustic meets glamour look with a long wooden table dressed with elegant cutlery, gorgeous glasses and vases full of bright flowers. If you are looking for a project, you might like the idea of making your family table and benches yourself. You’ll need an appropriate DIY kit, including Henkel adhesives, drill and mallet and a supply of timber. Make sure you follow trustworthy instructions, and you’ll create a very personal piece of furniture that you and your family can enjoy for years to come.

5. Add some vibrancy

Gardens are nothing without plenty of bright, beautiful flowers. Your flowerbeds will probably need a tidy after winter. Once they are back up to scratch, begin to sew seeds for a range of colourful flowers that will bloom in the summer months. Sunflowers, nasturtiums and marigolds will all bring your garden to life.

You probably have a list of things you want to do to spruce up your garden design for summer. Start now, and you’ll be finished in time to enjoy a cocktail as the sun begins to warm up.
