5 Ways To Create A Home Away From Home

Sometimes we have to spend an extended amount of time away from our homes. This can be for many reasons, including work, looking after an elderly or ill relative or because your home is undergoing extensive renovations. While you are in your temporary accommodation, it’s normal to feel a little unsettled and out of place.

However, there are plenty of things you can do to create the perfect home away from home and in this post we will discuss some of the best ways to do just that.

1. Choose your temporary accommodation carefully. If you have some control over where you stay, it will really help that home away from home feeling if you start with accommodation that you feel safe and comfortable in. Ultris Courthouse Square have a great range of apartments with excellent amenities that you may wish to check out. As a minimum make sure your accommodation meets any lifestyle requirements you may have and that it is in a safe and secure location.

2. Settle in as much as possible: Living out of a suitcase is not always fun. You may be reluctant to unpack completely because it’s only temporary, but it is a good idea to settle in as much as possible. With your clothes hanging in the wardrobe, your towels heating up on the radiator and your nightwear on the bed, you’ll feel at home in no time.

3. Make sure it’s clean and tidy. If you are missing being at home, it won’t help if you come home to your temporary accommodation and it is dirty and untidy. You want to feel relaxed and comfortable. When you move in, make sure you give it a clean so that it meet your standards and continue to keep it tidy so that it is a pleasant environment to live in.

4. Make it your own. Of course, a very effective way to make your temporary accommodation feel like a home away from home is to fill it will all your belongings. However, this is not always practical, especially if you are staying in accommodation like an extended stay hotel. However, you can make it your own with a few little homely touches. For example, you could add a few framed photos of family and friends, some books, fresh flowers and light scented candles that remind you of home.

5. Get the temperature right. It’s important to get the temperature right in your home away from home. Too cold or too hot and you will feel uncomfortable and long to be back in your perfectly cozy home. Turn up radiators and close curtains to warm up the rooms, or open windows to cool down the space. It’s also a good idea to do what you can to brighten the space as this will make it more appealing.

The key to feeling at home in temporary accommodation is to treat it like home. It may not look or feel anything like your home, but by settling in and tweaking the environment to make it just how you like it, you can make it feel like a home away from home.
