Conservatories: an extra room to get creative in your home

If you’re lacking a bit of space but don’t feel like getting heavy (and costly) work done in your home, a conservatory is an ideal compromise and great investment that comes with many advantages.

The most prominent being a quick installation (within a month on average, depending on the conservatory’s design and size) and flexibility on all levels.

So why not let your imagination and your home-design dreams run wild with a very versatile extra room for your home? Let us share with you you three inspirational uses for what is likely to become your new favourite room.

Take a dip

Indoor swimming pools can be used all year round and are a great addition to any home. With prices starting at $20,000, it’s a relatively affordable little luxury, as long as you make sure that the conservatory’s foundations are resistant enough to support the weight.

A few things to take into account if you’re feeling like taking a dip: keep aside extra budget for isolating the conservatory walls from equipment noise, add a dehumidifier and efficient ventilation system to avoid condensation and protect wood from rot and metal from corrosion and mold.

Lastly, it’s never a bad idea to keep the swimming pool covered when not in use, in order to avoid chlorine evaporation and damp, even indoors.

An exotic indoor garden

Turn your conservatory into a winter garden in the cooler months and a refreshing green space to relax away from the heat in summer.

Green-fingered aficionados will be able to grow exotic plants all year round, from plumbago plants to olive and orange trees.

You’ll just have to decide what kind of climate (dry or normal conditions) you prefer in the conservatory by adjusting the temperature with a heating system (or none at all).

Add a fountain, some furniture and create your own private oasis indoors!

Kitchen conservatory: your friends and family will love it  too

For all wannabe chefs and busy families who like to entertain, the conservatory is an idyllic location for a kitchen.

You’ll be able to cook and dine out in the open in the summer months and in a luminous room all year round. What’s more, you’ll just be one step away from your barbecue, veggie patch and herb garden.

In terms of size, specialists recommend a minimum of 20 square metres because as you won’t be able to use most of the walls.

Kitchen islands offer a practical and convivial solution, and you can always add a supportive wall instead of a window panel to make room for more kitchen units and working tops.

Don’t compromise and always go for a quality kitchen hood and fan though, especially if you’re planning on dining in.
