Create The Most Amazing Neutral Living Room

Your living room is the place where you can relax, socialize and relish in the comforts of being at home. Our living rooms are our sanctuaries from the world, the places where we can unwind and de-stress.

To ensure that you feel as comfortable in your living room as possible, designing a space that you love is a must. As well as being somewhere that is relaxing, you probably want your living room to be somewhere that you feel happy entertaining guests in.

Designing a space that is not only welcoming and comfortable but also elegant, is much easier than you would think. Simplicity is key when it comes to creating a beautiful living space; that's why a neutral design is the best option. Neutral living room designing is actually, much easier than you might think, to get right.

The right lighting is crucial

Unless you want your living room to resemble a hospital ward - harshly over lit, choosing the perfect lighting is vital. The key to lighting that isn't too harsh against the neutral walls is using various sources of light.

The reason for this is simple; in a neutral space, overhead lighting is too harsh. Unless you install a dimmer switch, that is. Even so, using various sources of light is the key to success when it comes to lighting a neutral room. Table lamps, tall lamps, and fairy lights are all ideal for using to light your living room.

Be choosy about the furniture

In a neutral room, having minimal pieces of furniture tends to work well. Obviously, this doesn’t mean skimping on seating so that you don’t have enough chairs for everyone. It just means keeping things as minimalist as possible. Most living rooms look fantastic with a couch, armchairs, coffee table, and a couple of extra tables placed beside each armchair. For extra seating, you could also add an ottoman or floor cushions.

When it comes to choosing the designs of the furniture, aim to opt for neutral colored pieces. However, adding one statement piece, like a printed armchair, can look fantastic. If you have a look online at home furniture, you should be able to find lots of beautiful neutral designs. As well as a few more colorful ones, that could be ideal for using as statement pieces.

Be smart about your textiles

The most common reason people steer clear of neutral living rooms is because lighter colors stain easily. However, if you are smart about the textiles that you choose, you won’t have to worry about this.

You see, it’s not always the color of the material that affects whether something stains. Often, it’s the type of material that you choose. Certain materials are more stain-resistant than others. So by choosing one of these, you can help to keep your living room looking good for longer. When picking pieces for your new living room, ask the company whether the material is stain resistant. As well as how easy to clean each of the pieces will be.

Add personality with accessories

If your living room was made up of neutral pieces without any color or pattern, it would be a boring place. That’s why, it’s so important that you add personality to the room with accessories and wall art.

Choose a secondary color scheme that will work well with the neutral design, and use it when picking accessories. This could be a pastel shade - these work well in neutral rooms, as they aren’t too bright and bold.

Designing a neutral living room is much easier than you would think, all you need to do is take note of the tips, above.
