Eco-Friendly (& Stylish) Home Design Solutions

In the last decade, we’ve all become much more environmentally conscious. It’s affected everything from the cars we drive to the way we produce energy. We’re all trying to do our bit for the planet, but it’s not always easy to see how our small changes make an impact.

Well, you should know that every small change makes a big difference. Especially if we all think in the same way. It got us thinking about what changes we can make in the home that have a softer touch on the environment.

Of course, here at Home Design Lover, we’re obsessed with style and interior design. So, we’re looking for ideas that compliment the style of the home. We know that, all too often, environmentally friendly options aren’t always the most stylish! But, it looks like things are slowly changing, and there is no need to compromise on one or the other. Let’s take a look at a few of our favourite green design ideas.

Nurture your outside space

The garden is a great place to inject some life and style into your property. We might be coming to the end of the summer, but it’s a good time to start thinking about next year. Making some green changes now will have a big difference over the winter. One of the most eco-friendly things you can do is invite wildlife into your garden. So, buy a cute birdbath for the patio, and build a birdhouse. Plant bright flowers to attract bees and birds. Encourage the natural ecosystem to flourish, and you’ll stimulate a stylish garden while you’re at it!

Install timer lights

We can reduce our carbon footprint significantly by watching our energy use. One big style change you can make is installing timed lights. The experts of Click Energy suggest that this trick will save you money in the long run. Timed lights are scheduled to come on at certain times, and automatically switch off when not in use. You can also use dimmer lights which use less energy when turned down low.

Use energy efficient bulbs and appliances

While we’re on the subject of lighting, it’s time to replace your bulbs with energy efficient alternatives. In the past, these bulbs emitted a strange, almost fluorescent light. Not exactly great for a cosy lighting source. We’ve come a long way since then, and there are cosy alternatives on the market.

Use vintage markets and charity shops

You can reduce your overall global impact by sourcing second-hand furniture. It lowers your input into the environmentally unfriendly production and manufacture process. Plus, you’ll find some unique and stylish furniture for your home!

Eco-friendly accessories

Environmentally-friendly materials are now very stylish when used correctly. Try to incorporate them into your home through accessories. Hunt out reclaimed materials or recycled woods. You could buy a bamboo room divider or a dressing table made of reclaimed wood.

Going green no longer means compromising on style. You can have both! Keep a green eye open when shopping for your house. Good for the home, good for the planet.
