The 10 Rules for a Cosy Bedroom

The bedroom should be the cosiest, most relaxing place in the house. If it isn’t, you probably aren’t getting the highest quality sleep that you deserve. People make mistakes in the bedroom without even realising it. Use these 10 rules to make your bedroom as cosy as possible:

1. Use Dark, Neutral Colours

Neutral colours are always best for a bedroom, as brighter colours can be too stimulating when it’s time to go to sleep. A mix of darker neutrals is best, such as navy, grey, and cream. You could go for beiges, creams, and whites, but it may not have as much of a cosy feel.

2. Use a Variety of Textures

Different textures are the key to all cosy rooms. For the ultimate cosy bedroom, use fluffy rugs and throws. You can create a variety of atmosphere’s with different textures.

3. Have Different Forms of Lighting

Ideally, you’ll have a dimmer switch in the bedroom so you can set it to whatever you like depending on what you’re doing. However, you could also have a few lamps dotted around for decoration and reading purposes.

4. The Bigger the Bed, The Better

Everybody knows that a huge bed is the key to a cosy bedroom. If you can fit a kingsize in your bedroom, do it!

5. Layer on Different Blankets

A bed should look as if you want to jump on it and roll around at all times. A tip I like to use to create this feeling is layered blankets. This helps to create the perfect bed. You can always take some off when it’s time to go to sleep, if you need to.

6. Use Plenty of Pillows

As well as blankets, you need plenty of pillows. Again, you don’t have to use them all when you go to sleep. In fact, if you did, you’d probably get a pretty big crick in your neck. The more decorative pillows you have layered on, the better.

7. Don’t Have a TV

A TV does not help to create a cosy atmosphere in the bedroom. All a TV does is keep you awake and stimulated when you should be winding down for bed.

8. Use Heavy Duty Curtains

Heavy duty curtains might cost a little more money, but they help to keep the light out perfectly. This is great if you like to have early nights/lie ins.

9. Use Pattern Sparingly

Pattern can be used in a cosy bedroom, but you should use it sparingly. Keep a prominent pattern to one wall for the best effect, and make sure you stick to the colour rule we mentioned earlier. You can include delicate patterns on bed linen, but don’t make them too obvious or clashing.

10. Create a Reading Nook

A reading nook is the ultimate cosy bedroom addition. If you’re lucky and have a big window, then make a comfy spot there for you to do some bedtime reading. If you don’t have a big window, you could simply use a comfy chair.

Use as many of these rules as you can for the cosiest bedroom ever!
