Top Tips For Bringing More Natural Light Into Your Home

Is your home feeling dark and lacking natural light? If so, you need to get this sorted as soon as possible. Your home should be a haven for you and your family. It doesn't matter if you’ve you’ve just moved in or if it’s been your home for years. It should look bright and inviting at all times.

There are many things you can do to reintroduce natural light back into your home. Here are some fantastic tips you can use to change your home for the better.

Add or change your windows

What better way to bring light back into your home than by adding windows. Windows can be so versatile. They come in thousands of shapes, colors, styles and sizes to suit every taste. They can be a design feature or be solely functional. You don’t have to just add them to your kitchen or living room. Think of areas in your home that are particularly dark. These usually include stairways, basements, and landings. Consider the potential of the space if more natural light was included. Could you install a massive window wall to see the beautiful views outside more clearly? Maybe a Sunsquare skylight would be suitable? Could you remove those kitchen cabinets and add some small windows instead? Remember that you don’t have to stick with the windows you’ve currently got, if they aren’t right for you. Replacing your windows with larger paned alternatives are an easy way of bringing more light in.

Remove Unnecessary walls

Open plan living can make your home feel dramatically lighter and bigger. If you are able to, remove any walls that may be stopping light from getting in. Too many walls can make a room feel small and dark, which is not ideal. Think practically and determine if it would make your home more functional. It may make your home brighter but if it doesn’t suit you, you won’t enjoy it. Always consult with an architect and professional builders before carrying out any work like this. They will be able to plan a suitable approach to creating a beautiful open space for your home. While keeping within building regulations. Another idea is to reconsider the layout of your home. This means you can choose which rooms you would like to have more natural light in. Again, consult with an architect beforehand.

Use Mirrors everywhere

While mirrors make wonderful decorative pieces, they are also an excellent light source. Natural light can be bounced off of mirrors to create a light atmosphere. Placing them throughout your home means that light is reflected from room to room. Hang them in the rooms or spaces that get particularly dark, such as your stairway. This should not only introduce more light but also create a larger appearance. You can also use mirrors on cabinets, tables and lights to enhance the effect.
