Want The Pefect Home? Design & Build It Yourself

When it comes to design problems in the home, many people will have complaints about those ‘difficult corners’ that every home seems to have. No matter how gorgeous the rest of your house is, there will always be that little bit that distracts your eye ruins the view.

Well, if this sound like you, then perhaps you ought to think about building your own home. You have a blank canvas in front of you - and it’s a lot better value than buying an existing property. With this in mind, we thought we would go through some of the pros and cons of building your home from scratch. Take a look and see if it might solve your design problems!

Cheaper

If you have an eye for pricing up jobs, building your home can be far cheaper than buying an existing property. You’ll need the cash to purchase a plot of land somewhere, and, of course, to pay your architect and builders. There will be a lot of spending in many different areas. But, in most cases the overall cost will still be smaller than buying a similar sized existing property. However, a few words of warning before you rush out to your local town planning department.

First of all, you will need a good chunk of savings. Mortgage companies aren’t too enamored with the DIY house market unless you are somebody who has done it all before. So, you will need to fund yourself. Secondly, you have to keep tight control over those costs. The building trade is notorious for underpricing jobs, and anything from the weather to underground issues can halt work.

More luxury

DIY homes are cheaper, so you get a lot more for your money. For example, you might not be able to afford your neighbor’s three bedroom house, but you can build bigger and better yourself. And, of course, you can also use the difference to add a touch of luxury to your home. An en suite bathroom, a pool - it’s entirely up to you.

You aren’t alone in the process, either. There are plenty of companies out there that can take you through everything and suggest where to cut corners and spend big. Monogram Homes, for example, can help you squeeze that little bit of extra luxury that you want in particular areas. Make no mistake about it, building your home gives you all the options you will ever need.

Better build

As the old saying goes, ‘they don’t make them like they used to’. But in this case, that might be a good thing. Sure, in days gone by, house builders used great materials, and many of those homes are still standing today. But modern techniques have improved, and if you choose the right materials, you can build a house that will stand the test of time.

And think about the inner aspect of a house, as well. In old houses, there are shonky electronics and plumbing systems to deal with. If you have ever had design issues because of your electronics, you’ll know exactly what we mean!

OK, so that’s all from us. Think you could build a home yourself? It could be the answer to all your design problems. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
